Michael has informed me that his coworkers think I'm a hippie. Here is what they know about me :
1. I am very determined to have an unmediated birth. I have even switched doctors in order to give myself a better chance at it.
2. We are going to cloth diaper.
3. They also probably know that we recycle and try to compost.
So, I see where they are coming from. People especially are shocked by the cloth diapers. However, I don't really see it as hippie, but rather being an old school mom. I enjoy the simple life and want to do the same with my parenting. I plan to use glass bottles and make my own baby food too. While these things are not the most convenient, they feel right to me. I'm sure I will get lazy and slap in a disposable diaper at times, or buy some jars of pre-made baby food, and that's ok. But who knows I may also get Michael to put a clothes line in our backyard or take the "hippiness" to another level in some way.
It also probably doesn't help that they haven't really spent time with me, I don't know many hippies with as many clothes as me. :)
Anyone else been called a hippie? What old school mom/dad stuff do you do, or think you will do?
I wanted to do an unmedicated birth too; did a TON of research, took classes, etc. Didn't work out for me, but hope it will for you.
ReplyDeleteI looked into cloth diapering but was just a little overwhelmed by it so decided against it.
That's about all I've done (I do recycle, but I'm not sure that's a hippie thing anymore).
Only time will tell with the birth. I am prepared if I need a little help along the way. Cloth diapering is a little overwhelming, but I think once we get into a rhythm, it won't be too bad. Recycling is still considered a little hippie here. There are LOTS of people that don't recycle and are proud of it. We have a pick up service for some things, but we also recycle a lot of other things they don't pick up. I'm guessing the ladies at Michael's work are of the non-recycling bunch. :)
DeleteWell, mine is a rare case. Graham was turned breech (only 3% of babies do that at full-term) so it was highly recommended to do a c-section for different risks of him being hurt coming out vaginally that way. A very few doctors deliver breech babies vaginally nowadays. Soooo c-section it was... the opposite of what I wanted. I was upset while I was pregnant, but it turned out fine; the recovery was not that bad at all and the joy of having my baby in my arms made everything perfect. I honestly didn't care at all once he was here. : )
DeleteI'm SURE you can deliver naturally just like I was sure I could. : ) You can do it girl!
